Nikita Lastochkin

A race car driver from Russia

I came to America when I was 16 years old, on my own, with no friends or relatives in the country. At first I attended a language school in Redondo Beach, after which I went on to pursue a business degree. It was a great experience, something that to this day seems like an incredible journey. Living in "the big melting pot" that is Los Angeles and being exposed to different cultures and lifestyles everyday is something that I will never get tired of. California is a fantastic place that I have grown very fond of and I am proud to call it my second home.

I have always loved racing and going fast, but as a child I never really got exposed to it. Growing up it was more of hockey and boxing as something that I did in my spare time, and there wasn’t an opportunity for me to go to a go kart track nearby and have a go at it. No one in my family was into motorsport and it was nearly non-existent in Russia at that time. Once I have discovered it for myself as an adult while living in the United States it was a genuine revelation to me. A lot of people can go through their life and are not able to discover their true passion. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found this for myself and have a chance at succeeding. The fact that I am now on the Mazda Road to Indy is just amazing, but I have no plans to leave it at that.
